Privacy Statement

The communitybuilders.nsw website is maintained by the New South Wales Government Premiers Department, Strategic Projects Division. This Privacy Policy applies to all the publicly accessible pages on the communitybuilders.nsw website located at http://www.communitybuilders.nsw.gov.au.

Users of the communitybuilders.nsw site are entitled to expect that any information as a result of that use will be treated within the terms of the New South Wales government's privacy responsibilities and obligations. The New South Wales government's privacy practices are regulated by the New South Wales Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.

Communitybuilders.nsw does not have any responsibility for the privacy policies or practices of any site linked from the communitybuilders.nsw website. Your activity on those sites is covered by the privacy policies on those sites.

Collection of information

Each time you visit the communitybuilders.nsw website, a certain amount of information is automatically collected about the page/s you have accessed. This information includes:

  • the current IP (Internet Protocol) address of the machine which has accessed it;
  • your top-level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc.);
  • the address of your server;
  • the date and time of your visit to the site;
  • the date and time of your exit from the site;

  • which page you are on when you exit the site;

  • if you have arrived here via a Search Engine, which keywords or phrases you used to find us; and
  • the type of browser and operating system you have used
Email lists

When you subscribe to our email lists, we collect:

  • your email address
  • your gender
  • the state you reside in
  • your postcode
  • country
  • current IP address
  • server address
  • operating system
  • browser type and version
Website Feedback/Response

communitybuilders.nsw collects information from visitors who provide feedback on the website, technical problems and on individual articles. This feedback is used to administer and refine the service.

When you complete the website feedback form, we collect some or all of the following information:

  • your age
  • your gender
  • your postcode
  • country if overseas
  • current IP address
  • server address
  • operating system
  • browser type and version
  • email address in the case of a technical problem - this is optional
Cookies

The communitybuilders.nsw website does not use cookies. The one exception to this is the Discussion Forum, which does use a cookie to display the newest messages to the viewer. This function is optional, and the Forum will work whether cookies are turned on or off.

Discussion forum and chat sessions

Please remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information or other peoples' personal information.

By participating in the discussion forum or chat sessions, you consent to disclosure to the public of your email address and the content of your contribution. If you provide information about another person, you are also responsible for ensuring that you have the permission of that person to provide the information.

You may request the moderator of the discussion forum to delete an email provided by someone else which contains information relating to you.

What we do with information we collect

The information collected during each visit is aggregated with similar logged information and published in reports in order for communitybuilders.nsw to identify patterns of usage of the site. This will assist us in improving the communitybuilders.nsw site and the material and services within the site.

Other than in the discussion forum and chat sessions, no data which can be used to identify an individual collected from the website will be disclosed to any other party.

No persons email address will be entered into any email list, unless that person gives their permission by subscribing to the email list subscription page.

Exceptions

communitybuilders.nsw reserves the right to collect, use and disclose to relevant authorities more extensive information than stated above where authorised or required by law, or for law enforcement purposes. This may include the following circumstances:

  • unauthorised attempts to access files which are not published communitybuilders.nsw pages;
  • unauthorised tampering or interference with files published on the communitybuilders.nsw site;
  • unauthorised attempts to index the contents of the communitybuilders.nsw site by other sites;
  • communications which are defamatory, abusive, vilify individuals or groups and where there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have been, or may be, committed; and
  • attempts to otherwise compromise the security of the web server, breach the laws of the State of New South Wales or Commonwealth of Australia, or interfere with the use of the communitybuilders.nsw site by other users.

In the event of an investigation, communitybuilders.nsw will provide access to our data to any law enforcement agency that is authorised or required by subpoena or by search warrant or other statutory instrument to inspect that data.

Security

communitybuilders.nsw takes all reasonable steps to ensure the security of the data we hold from such risks as loss or unauthorised access, destruction, use, modification, misuse or disclosure. Information collected is stored in an appropriately secure format and held by communitybuilders.nsw for archival purposes.
