Once you've identified your community's need and agree on what you want to do, the next important step is setting up the organisation to undertake the project or provide the service. Planning and efficient management are keys to success.

You'll probably be working with a broad range of people so you'll need good people skills and communication strategies to get your message across to everyone involved.

Setting up

Here we cover the different types of service/project/organisation that you may be setting up and the importance of ideology and structure. We look at the legal requirements and where you can get advice for this stage. There are manuals and practical information to guide you through this establishment phase.

Planning your service/project

Planning is an important part of any community organisation's activities. You need to choose your goals then work out the best way to achieve them. You have to think ahead and be organised. Included are service planning methods and documentation and evaluation techniques.

Managing your service/organisation

Policy development, financial management, staff management, and organisational development are vital to manage an organisation, project or service. This topic provides manuals and other practical resources to assist you.

Developing people skills

Community building is working with people and working with change. Here we feature techniques for running successful groups and meetings, plus how to resolve conflict and manage change.

Getting your message across

Here we look at some approaches you can to let people know what you are doing. You may need to develop communication strategies which could include using the media, producing newsletters, publishing multi-lingual information or lobbying.
