I have had what I believe is a great idea for a fund raising day but I have no idea on how to go about starting this up. I would need to involve a company as there would need to be drop of points for people to leave items. Can anyone give me advice on what I need to do to get this idea off the ground. It would hopefully be a annual national event.
Thanks

If your answer is YES, take advantage of this opportunity to list your company for FREE until 30 June 2010 on ROcNet (Resources Online communityNet) - www.rocnet.org.au

ROcNet is an initiative of TRI Community Exchange, a not-for-profit organisation that has been providing training, resources and information to the community sector since 1993. ROcNet is part of communityNet, a website visited by an average number of 650 visitors per day, as well as a weekly e-news subscribers list of more than 1,600 subscribers, growing by 3.5% at month.

ROcNet is a new online database of services providers for the not-for-profit and community sector. It is an easy-to-use, fully searchable directory, listing suppliers under a broad range of categories. ROcNet is promoted to the not-for-profit sector by TRI Community Exchange in order to encourage organisations to quickly find a service provider to meet their needs.

Thanks to funding from Ageing, Disability, and Home Care (ADHC), TRI Community Exchange can offer you a FREE listing on ROcNet until 30 June 2010. After that date, you will be invited to be listed on ROcNet for a small subscription fee of $165 inc. GST per financial year. Listing your details on ROcNet now does not oblige you in any way to be re-listed for a fee from July 2010. Your initial free listing period will give you an opportunity to measure the response of your advertisement (including seeing the number of hits your entry receives) and make a decision about a paid listing in 2010.

To list your service in ROcNet, go to www.rocnet.org.au/addentry

If you are a nonprofit organisation, and would like to recommend a company/service for inclusion in ROcNet, please email us the details or let your service providers/suppliers know of this great opportunity.

Hi

We are currently operating a business which provides contact/supervision for kids in foster care and about to ramp up our recruitment of foster care services. We are seeking to set up a NPO to achieve funding for the delivery of innovative educational based programs to the foster children who are for numerous reasons unable to obtain community resources for their needs. The vision is also to provide financial subsidies for parents who cannot afford to pay for contact/supervision.

We would welcome feedback as to the best options available in establishing such a service, given that the establishment of an NPO may not be viable.

Thanks

The Bega Valley Festival is being held over the weekend of 20, 21 and 22 November in Bega, southern NSW. http://begavalleyfestival.com.au

The Festival theme is 'Communities in Transition' showcasing the many things people are doing around the region to build community capacity and resilience.

Food stalls, garden networks, a Clean Energy Expo, a Sustainable Landuse and Living Expo, community services information, national and many local speakers, with many more activities are on show with over 70 stall holders presenting in the middle of town.

Among the weekend's many highlights is the Clean Energy Solar Ball (Sat night), the Rotary Club of Bega Family Fun Day (Sunday), tours of BEND, the Bega Eco Neighbourhood Development, and a Transition Towns interactive display to help people adapt to the challenges and opportunities arising out of climate change and a lifestyle associated with Peak Oil and energy descent.

I thought I would add to the public liability description given in this guide. If your business operations were to injure a member of the public or damage their property in some way, public liability insurance would cover you in the event of a claim being made against you. The amount of public liability cover that you might want to take out largely depends on the level of risk attached to your business. A lower limit of £1m may be appropriate for a ‘one-man-band’ builder, but £2m or £5m of cover may be more suitable for medium and large businesses.

As a mother of a six year old boy with Dyslexia it breaks my heart to see that this thread has been going for four years and we are all still crying out for help. Thank you to those that have contributed contact information for different programs. All I can do is start at the top and work my way through. Hopefully I will find something that will help.

It helps to know that so many other mothers are out there dealing with the same frustrations, but it's terrible that we have to go through this.

I want to share with you a term coined by Jenny McCarthy that I recite to myself every time I hit a wall - "Mother Warriors". Please remember it when you are faced with people who try to make you wrong. You are ALWAYS right when you are fighting for your child!

Good Luck!

Hi,Your story sounds a bit like mine, except I am a kinship carer for 2 Grandchildren every 2nd weekend, they r in foster care with a family. I do not get on with foster family, and they make my life hell...
The kids aged 7 years & 6 years, they have been in foster care for 5 years.
The 6 year old is not my maternal grandchild but she has no one else and is my grandsons 1/2 sister, for the 1st years of my grandsons life I had to fight the mother to see him, the when they were taken into care same thing again with dept.of child safety and now after a long battle, getting blue cards doing courses I have grief with the foster family. thank you anyone reading this...... I live in Queensland and find there is no one and no where to go to ask questions
and to fully trust the people you are talking with.....

Social Innovation Camp Meetup in Wollongong on Tuesday 27th October

Based on a UK concept, Social Innovation Camp (SI Camp) Australia is a program to use the Internet and ideas from the public to help improve the world or specific communities.

The program begins with a public call for ideas that use web-based capabilities to respond to social needs through a series of idea generation ‘meetups’ in various locations around Australia, including a meetup in Wollongong on Tuesday 27th October. Ideas received so far have included:

* A Website to help connect disadvantaged people find opportunities for work experience
* A 'crowdsourcing' Website to help design the Australian city of the future
* An online tracking system for consumer reporting of adverse psychiatric drug reactions
* A virtual community 'tool shed' for geographic communities to lend and borrow consumer durables such as lawnmowers, power tools, custom kitchen appliances etc

Based on the idea of someone with living with Multiple Sclerosis, the UK SI Camp process created http://enabledbydesign.org/blog/about.html

Six to eight great ideas will be selected to participate in an intensive workshop in Sydney over the weekend of 5th-7th March 2010, where Web developers will help build Website prototypes, business leaders will help with enterprise planning and funding advice.

The Wollongong meetup is taking pace on Tuesday 27th October and people interested in attending can register online at http://www.sicampaustralia.org

Note: Other meetups have already taken place in Sydney (and elsewhere around the country) but this is the first regional SI Camp meetup.

Thanks,

James

Application is pending for 13 APS professional development points.

The workshop, entitled "How psychologists can use Thought Field Therapy (TFT) to significantly enhance efficiency and effectiveness" is a two day interactive and includes all materials and catering.

This workshop traces the history of psychotherapy,

are important areas to be covered in the workshop.

There will be numerous live demonstrations of the
techniques and ample opportunity for supervised
practice of the various skills as they are introduced.
Issues of traumatic stress and the psychosomatic

Hi,
I am amazed at how many people are in the same situation. My name is Yvonne and I have a boy 5 yrs old named Isaiah. My story is similiar to others with no family but I have a daughter 25 and married but is in her own life.
Laying in bed on Friday evening my son asked if I could get his grandparents fixed after a visit to the grave. Then he alerted me to his need that we would just have to get a new set. We live in the Campbelltown region if anyone would be interested. Or has any ideas on the matter.

Have you considered setting up a hosted phpbb.com forum?

They're not that hard to setup and I think many webhosts actually have cpanel type of things where you can install them with one or two clicks.

The suggestion to use ning.com is a good one. They have quite a nice platform and it's hosted by them so overall a pretty good deal.

As with any of the options above, including the yahoo groups (which is also a fine platform)...you'll definitely want to moderate it to keep the sp4m bots off.

Regards,

Hi Sara,
You can recognise the Donation In Kind in your accounts be creating a General Journal Entry:
Dr Expense that has been donated
Cr Income account called Donations In Kind
For example, if your generous volunteer donated their $200 airfare to attend one of your organisation's events you would:
Dr Travel Expenses
Cr Donations In Kind
The donor (in this case the volunteer) can in some circumstances get a tax deductible receipt. However there are lots of rules for this. Refer to the "Gift Pack" at ato.gov.au
If you need more ongoing support with finance, this is what our company does - Financial Management for Nonprofits. www.mob.com.au

Hi I do not anything about MYOB.

But I believe volunteer out of pocket expenses contributions should be considered as in-kind donations. And also number of volunteer work hours should also be calculated as in-kind donations. I heard that currently volunteer work is costed @ $25 an hour. so you may hardly have any budget $, but the work done by your volunteers could be valued at a substantial of money...and that are in-kind donations.
